Graziano began his journey in Venetian craftsmanship, but it was the enchantment of Sardinia that captured his heart and creativity. There, he discovered new techniques and materials, adapting his style to pay homage to Sardinian traditions. Her masks are the result of a unique fusion of two cultures rich in history and mystery, creating pieces of exceptional beauty and meaning.
Leather masks: traditional Sardinian craftsmanship
Graziano's leather masks are works of art that are born from a careful craftsmanship process that respects traditional techniques. Each mask begins its life from a detailed design, based on precise anatomical measurements to ensure that it fits perfectly on the face of the wearer. Graziano uses clay to develop an initial model, on which he then works leather, a material chosen for its flexibility and durability.
The leather, once wet with hot water, is molded onto the wooden or resin cast, adapting to every curvature and detail. Using specific tools, such as horn hammers and small wooden boxes, Graziano shapes the leather until it takes the desired shape. The finishing process includes the use of cutters, glue, and nail clippers to perfect every detail. Finally, the mask is colored and polished with natural waxes and fats, which enhance its color and texture.
